Lamia Toukan

Partner

Plans succession for owners, years before anyone needs the plan.

Lamia works with owners who have started to think about the end: a partner who wants out in five years, a founder whose daughter runs the shop floor, a family company with three siblings and one vote. She writes buy-sell agreements, plans sales to managers and employees, and works beside the owner’s accountant and estate lawyer so the three plans agree with each other.

She grew up behind the counter of her parents’ grocery in North Austin, which is where she first saw a business change hands badly.

How Lamia works

Lamia starts with a valuation everyone agrees on, or a way to set one. A buy-sell agreement with no price in it only postpones the argument.

She reviews each succession plan with the owner every year, at the same time the books close.
